Irvine is nationally ranked as having some of the best school in the nation—from The Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) to University of California, Irvine (UCI). Irvine students in K-12 grades consistently score above state and national averages in standardized tests and UCI is one of the nation's top academic institutions. Four high schools in the IUSD have repeatedly made NewsWeek's list of Top 1,300 U.S. Public High Schools.

In addition to UCI, there are 15 other universities and colleges with locations in Irvine, including: University of Southern California, Pepperdine University, Irvine Valley College, Chapman University, Concordia University, California State University, Fullerton and the Fashion Institute of Design.
