There’s an exceptional quality of life here in Irvine; it’s a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.

Sister Cities

Unity In Diversity

Irvine has long recognized the advantages of a diverse population and one expression of that is the Sister Cities program. The City established this program to connect Irvine residents with people from other countries, to promote goodwill and a greater understanding of world culture. The City works to engage the full spectrum of Irvine residents who can benefit from and participate in the Sister Cities Program.

When two cities from separate nations become sister cities, they enter a long-term partnership that applies to a broad range of city activities. The partnerships are approved and formed by top-elected officials from the two communities. In Irvine’s case, they have established sister city relations with three international cities:

Tsukuba, Japan
Hermosillo, Mexico
Taoyuan, Taiwan

There are other advantages to a sister city relationship. Working together, these relationships can provide opportunities for tourism and economic development, as well as an increase in trade, educational and cultural opportunities.
